This serio-comic drama tells the story of Vannica, a slightly overweight forty something peroxide blonde Borat-type character with better manners and an authentic Serbian accent. Working in a hair salon where very few clients want her services, Vannica believes her luck will soon change when she notices a small ad in a grocery store that reads, “Mature Woman Wanted.” Set in Toronto in the mid-nineties against the backdrop of the war in the former Yugoslavia, Vannica has the unenviable task of convincing Mrs. Leibowitz, a recently widowed elderly lady to help sponsor her family to come to Canada. To complicate matters further, Vannica finds herself falling for Mrs. Lebowitz’s divorced son and must eventually choose between him and her husband in Serbia.
